The Literature Times: Do you plan your stories in detail or write freely?
Jigar Gaglani– I usually have a broad layout in my mind before I start writing but the stories are written in a free flowing manner within the boundaries of that layout. After I have completed the chapter, I spend time in re-reading it briefly to ensure the messaging is aligned to my original thoughts and refine if needed.
The Literature Times: Do you keep a notebook for your ideas?
Jigar Gaglani– Yes, but usually its in a digital format in my phone or laptop.
The Literature Times: How do you handle writer’s block?
Jigar Gaglani– Since this was my first book and I was clear on the core message from the beginning, I did not thankfully face this situation. However, for me, a change of environment or freewriting is generally helpful based on my nature.
The Literature Times: Do you edit your book yourself or take professional help?
Jigar Gaglani– I like to edit the book myself so that the writing is aligned with my original thoughts and ideas.
The Literature Times: How many drafts do you usually write before finalising?
Jigar Gaglani– Based on my experience so far, I had 2 drafts or iterations before reaching the final version.
The Literature Times: Do you listen to music while writing?
Jigar Gaglani– No, I usually like to write when there is complete calmness around.
The Literature Times: Do you prefer typing on a computer or writing by hand?
Jigar Gaglani– These days, I like to write on a computer more than by hand as it is easier to delete and re-write something depending on your chain of thoughts.
The Literature Times: Do you write every day?
Jigar Gaglani– No, but when I start writing, I can be absorbed for hours on a go without realising the time.
The Literature Times: How do you balance writing with family and other work?
Jigar Gaglani– I believe that if the inspiration behind writing is strong, it becomes easier to find time with a bit of planning in advance.
The Literature Times: Do you share your writing with friends or family before publishing?
Jigar Gaglani– Since this was my first book, I had reached out to a few of my family friends (teens and teen parents) to read and provide a review of the book before publishing. They liked the draft immensely.
