Book Release: The Bulbul’s Nest by Meenal Dighe

Children’s literature receives a delightful new addition with the release of The Bulbul’s Nest by Meenal Dighe, a heartwarming and beautifully illustrated story that celebrates childhood curiosity and the wonders of nature. Perfect for young readers between the ages of 2 to 8 years, this charming book invites children and parents alike to step into a gentle, enchanting world where discovery begins in a simple garden.

The story follows Kitu, a bright and inquisitive five-year-old who arrives at a peaceful village homestay with her family for a holiday. Amidst the greenery of the guest house garden, Kitu notices a pair of small birds hopping among the bushes and fluttering through the air. Her mother tells her they are Red-Vented Bulbuls, sparking a series of curious questions in Kitu’s mind. Together, they discover the birds’ nest—but the real adventure begins with Kitu’s endless “whys.” Why is the daddy Bulbul bringing insects to the mommy Bulbul? Why can’t she leave the nest? Are there eggs inside? And will they hatch before Kitu’s holiday ends?

Through this tender narrative, young readers learn about the life cycle and behavior of the Red-Vented Bulbul in a way that is simple, engaging, and emotionally resonant. The story gently introduces children to themes of patience, nurturing, and the rhythms of nature, all seen through the excited eyes of a child and guided by a loving, bird-enthusiast mother. The book works beautifully as a read-aloud for parents and as a self-read for early learners, enhanced by vivid illustrations that bring the garden and its feathered residents to life.

The author, Meenal Dighe, is an Indian writer based in Mumbai. With an academic background in Chemical Engineering, HR Management, and Psychological Counselling from prestigious institutes in India, Meenal brings a thoughtful and layered perspective to her storytelling. She made her literary debut with the children’s mystery novel Disruptions in Dahanu – A Seaside Mystery from India in November 2023. The popular Dahanu Detectives Series continued with Guilty in Gwalior – A Heritage Mystery from India in October 2024 and Ruckus in Rishikesh – The Mystery of The Temple Thefts in November 2025, earning her recognition among young readers who enjoy mystery and adventure rooted in Indian settings.

Beyond her fiction, Meenal nurtures a lifelong passion for birds and wildlife, as well as India’s rich history and archaeology. She fondly describes wildlife sanctuaries, libraries, and museums as her favorite places on earth. One of her most treasured possessions is The Book of Indian Birds by Salim Ali, a classic field guide that has inspired generations of bird lovers across India.

After a successful corporate career, Meenal now dedicates much of her time to supporting municipal schools in tribal village areas and traveling across India and the world, “finding stories everywhere.” This spirit of observation and empathy shines brightly in The Bulbul’s Nest, where a simple holiday moment transforms into a meaningful lesson about nature, family, and wonder.

With its gentle storytelling, educational value, and captivating artwork, The Bulbul’s Nest promises to spark curiosity in young minds and encourage families to look more closely at the natural world around them. It is not just a story about birds—it is a celebration of observation, patience, and the joy of asking questions.Top of Form
