Authors’ Background: Author M. N. Viswanath was a cricketer during his playing days. He is now a certified sports psychology coach and counselor. He has been helping athletes of different disciplines on the mental side of sports. Besides, he is an author, blogger and podcaster and has authored Sports psychology for aspiring champions.

Author, K. Srinath has been a First class cricketer, who holds the unique distinction of representing both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.K.Srinath has also served in the capacity of a selector and a coach and currently a long serving umpire on the BCCI panel.

Neel Preet:  Congratulations on your book, Handbook Of Cricket Psychology!” What kind of responses are you getting from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.

Authors: thanks for the appreciation Neel Preet. We have been getting very good response from both India and abroad. This book is very unique as it addresses the psychological issues faced by cricketers and provides effective solutions on how to deal with them. Since we were treading in an unchartered territory, the experience was challenging yet exciting.

Neel Preet: What inspired you to write this book and what was the impetus behind this work of yours?

Authors: This impetus to write this book was in the need felt and expressed by cricketers with regards to the psychological issues they faced and the support they needed. The inspiration came from the fact that there was not enough literature on the subject and our book once published would be the torch bearer for generations to come. 

Neel Preet: Your book’s title, “Handbook Of Cricket Psychology” seems to be very catchy. Well, what made you go for this particular title?

Authors: This book is ahandy ready reckonerconcerning the psychological problems faced by cricketers- hence the title.

Neel Preet: What was your mind-set, while working on this book? What are some of those major points which you expect the readers to extract from this book?

Authors: Our mindset throughout the journey of completing this book has been positive as far as its intent and goal was concerned. The major premise of this book has been the topics related to self-confidence, self-belief, concentration, motivation, visualization, mental toughness, positive mindset and stress management. We expect that the readers will be benefitted by the solutions provided under the said topics. 

Neel Preet: How is this book of yours different from the other titles of the same genre? And who are some of those writers and authors, whom you follow?

Authors: There are some books published under the wider domain of sports psychology but not any with regards to the psychology of cricket. This is where our book Handbook of cricket is very unique comparatively.

Neel Preet: Next, can you please tell us some of those points which the budding authors should follow while working on ‘Sports & Recreation’ genre!

Authors: It is left to the subject, intention and creativity of future authors and we do not have much to say about that.

Neel Preet: Which segment of readers is your primary target through this book of yours? And, how is your book relevant in the present day scenario?

Authors: Yes, the major premise of this book is `cricket psychology’ and it is relevant to the present generation of cricketers and the stake holders than ever before. It is primary written for the aspiring cricketers.

Neel Preet: Is there any message that you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!

Authors: The underlying message to the cricketers is that they have to pay equal importance to role of the mind in cricket performance like they do with physical conditioning and skill training. Mind training and counseling need not be a taboo anymore.

Neel Preet: What challenges did you face while writing this title, and how did you overcome them?

Authors: The biggest challenge was in finalizing a fancy title or go with a title that would aptly describe the idea behind the book. We chose the latter.

Neel Preet: Now that “Handbook Of Cricket Psychology” is out, what’s next for you both as authors? Can the readers expect more such incredible works in the future?

Authors: Yeah, we are very confident that the readers will accept this book whole heartedly and will be thankful to us for bringing out the same. We expect positive feedback from them. Only time will tell about our future works, but of now we do not have anything on the anvil.
