Our mind is an aimless wanderer. Sometimes it creates beautiful things; other times, it forms destructive habits and patterns that are not conducive to our growth. It chooses its own pleasures, its own suffering, and its own dealings. It can fixate so deeply on certain things that we may deviate from our true life purpose and derail ourselves from our destined path.
Do we realise that when we fixate on a problem and overanalyse it, the problem begins to grow larger than it truly is? In turn, we create our own suffering. We indulge in pleasures, becoming more indulgent and greedy, seeking the same experiences repeatedly. We begin to chase desires and make it our life’s aim to accumulate more and more-eventually forgetting to live in the present moment. It is human nature. No one is born with mastery over the mind. We do not even know who we truly are at the soul level. We are not this body; we are an eternal soul living a temporary human existence.
Our ever-wandering mind needs something to anchor itself to-but this fixation must be beyond the material world. The material world is filled with distractions and unending greed. It must be something higher, something divine. That is where Krishna consciousness comes in.
Rooting your mind:
Meditate upon your ishta dev/Krishna’s image. Start chanting every day with devotion. Take some time for yourself in silence; bring the image of the deity before you. Look at the image intently, focusing from the feet to the crown. Do this for at least 10 minutes daily as your dhyan sadhana. This intentional practice will help you stay still and free from unnecessary thoughts. Pray before going to bed. Release what is troubling you. Surrender your day-to-day activities at the feet of the Lord. Speak your heart to Him.
This simple practice will help you cultivate your consciousness, preserve the purity of your mind, and allow pure, positive thoughts to settle within you.
A brave and fearless person who knows his goal is one who has mastered his mind. For example, Arjun emerged victorious in the Mahabharat because he anchored his mind in God, enabling him to stay unwavering in performing his duty as a kshatriya. Shree Krishna helped Arjun understand and receive divine knowledge so he would not lose sight of his goal in Kurukshetra.
The main aim of life is soul evolution and learning. Anchoring yourself in God’s consciousness will keep you stable through life’s ups and downs. Instead of being pulled and swept away by the force of the ocean currents, you will learn to stay afloat. You will have an anchor to stabilise your boat in the ever-changing currents of this vast ocean-and that anchor is Krishna’s name. Krishna is the most compassionate and kind Lord, always ready to help His devotees when they surrender to Him.
We should thank Him every day for His grace and continue chanting His name with love. Meditate so that this consciousness may deepen and help you discover the true meaning of your life.
THE GIFT OF KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS IS EVERLASTING PEACE IN THIS TRANSIENT MATERIAL WORLD.
WE HAVE COME FROM THE SOURCE.
WE MUST RETURN TO THE SOURCE.
THE SUPREME LORD IS OUR SOURCE. WE ARE MERE PARTICLES OF GOD, WAITING TO BE REUNITED WITH HIM AGAIN.
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare.
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
Radhe Radhe.
My heartfelt thoughts.
