Science is the foundation of progress and human understanding. Every great scientific mind has added a new dimension to our knowledge of the universe, and every discovery has changed the course of civilization. In his latest Marathi book, “December Maahinyaateel Vidnyanyatree: Shaastradnya Jeevan-Charitr Sangrah,” eminent scholar Dr. Vitthalrao Bhi. Khyade pays tribute to the legendary scientists whose birth anniversaries fall in the month of December. This work is not just a compilation of biographies; it is a celebration of human curiosity, perseverance, and the eternal quest for truth through science.

The book highlights the importance of popularizing scientific biographies in classical languages like Marathi, thereby making the lives and works of world-renowned scientists accessible to native readers. December, marked by India’s National Mathematics Day (22 December) — the birth anniversary of the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan — becomes the focal month for this literary and scientific homage. Alongside Ramanujan, the book also explores the life journeys of notable scientists such as Sir Kariamanikkam Srinivasa Krishnan, Theodor Schwann, Howard Martin Temin, Irawati Dinkar Karve, and Sir Isaac Newton.

Through his engaging narrative, Dr. Khyade explains how these scientific luminaries viewed the mysteries of the universe, challenged established beliefs, and contributed to the advancement of knowledge that continues to shape modern life. Each biography in this collection not only tells the story of scientific achievement but also inspires readers to embrace curiosity and perseverance. The author effectively connects the passion of these scientists with the philosophical essence of discovery, demonstrating that science is not merely an academic pursuit, but a reflection of the human spirit.

The book stands out for its dual purpose: promoting the scientific spirit among the Marathi-speaking community and connecting science with the cultural ethos of India. It encourages readers of Marathi, Indo-Aryan Prakrit, and other classical languages to engage with science in their linguistic and cultural context. The lucid language, well-researched content, and thought-provoking insights make it a valuable addition to libraries, classrooms, and personal collections.

Dr. Vitthalrao Bhi. Khyade, a distinguished zoologist and educator, brings his decades of academic experience and research excellence into this literary endeavor. After serving as a Junior College teacher and later as a Professor of Zoology for over three decades at Agricultural Development Trust’s Shardabai Pawar Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Baramati, Dr. Khyade retired in 2023. His contributions to scientific research are remarkable — from innovative use of Juvenoid compounds, Stevia inulin, and herbal extracts in sericulture to pioneering studies on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) proteins with applications in anti-aging and immunity enhancement.

With over 300 published research papers, 30 of them co-authored with Nobel Laureates, and more than 30 international awards to his credit, Dr. Khyade continues to be a shining example of dedication to science and education. “December Maahinyaateel Vidnyanyatree” is not only a literary tribute but also an educational gift — one that brings science closer to society and transforms admiration for scientists into inspiration for generations to come.
