Some personalities leave such an indelible mark on humanity that words fall short in describing them. “Mahan Dr. Abdul Kalam (Kavya Pushpanjali)” by eminent poet Tryambak Rao Satkar “Ambar” is one such heartfelt attempt to capture the greatness of India’s beloved “Missile Man,” Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, through the medium of poetry.

The book is a unique collection of 59 Muktak poems—short, impactful verses—that paint an intimate and inspiring portrait of the late President’s life, values, and unmatched contribution to the nation. Each Muktak is crafted with deep respect and admiration, reflecting Dr. Kalam’s qualities of humility, scientific brilliance, patriotism, and dedication to the progress of India.

The Origin of the Work
The genesis of this poetic collection has a touching backstory. In May 2007, during a grand ceremony commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1857 revolt, 51 children from Bhilai were to recite these poems as a courtesy gift to His Excellency President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The poems were specially written at the request of Mrs. Rita Shrivastava, the then Additional Chief Education Officer of BSP School, Bhilai.

Displaying remarkable dedication, Satkar penned these poems in just 5–6 hours, knowing that within three days, a team of about 200 children and teachers would be leaving for Delhi. The plan was to beautifully handwrite them into 51 folders and present them to the President. Unfortunately, due to stormy weather and security concerns, the presentation ceremony was cancelled, and the poems remained unpublished in folders for years.

Now, after a long gap, the poet has decided to bring these works out of their confines and dedicate them to the memory of Dr. Kalam, ensuring that this heartfelt tribute reaches the wider public. As Satkar himself says, “Summarizing his personality is like showing light to the sun.”
