Book Release: Passion, Perseverance and Pride: Memoirs of NTPC Veterans, edited by Shri Bhavaraju Srinivasa Rao

“Passion, Perseverance and Pride: Memoirs of NTPC Veterans,” edited by Shri Bhavaraju Srinivasa Rao, is a heartfelt and inspiring tribute to the people who built NTPC into one of India’s most respected power generation companies. As NTPC Limited celebrates its 50th year since its establishment on November 7, 1975, this book captures the remarkable journey of the organization through the voices of those who lived it — the veterans who dedicated their lives to making NTPC a symbol of excellence, resilience, and innovation in the energy sector.

From its modest beginnings as the National Thermal Power Corporation, established under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, NTPC has evolved into a diversified energy conglomerate with a total installed capacity of 83,888 MW, including joint ventures and subsidiaries, and a presence across 19 states. What began as a mission to power the nation through thermal energy has now expanded to include renewable energy, hydroelectric power, nuclear power, and coal mining. This transformation reflects NTPC’s adaptability and forward-looking vision — values deeply rooted in the commitment and perseverance of its people.

The book brings together an extraordinary collection of personal reflections, untold stories, and invaluable experiences from NTPC’s pioneers and veterans. These narratives go beyond statistics and milestones; they offer readers an intimate look at the challenges faced, the lessons learned, and the spirit of teamwork that shaped NTPC’s legacy. Through moments of struggle and success, innovation and improvisation, “Passion, Perseverance and Pride” paints a vivid portrait of how a generation of dedicated professionals built more than just power plants — they built a culture of excellence and integrity that continues to define NTPC’s identity today.

At the helm of this compilation is Shri Bhavaraju Srinivasa Rao, whose deep connection with NTPC lends authenticity and insight to the work. A B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from JNTU Kakinada and a Master’s in Philosophy from IGNOU, Shri Bhavaraju joined NTPC in 1980 as an Executive Trainee and served the organization for 37 years, retiring as General Manager at Ramagundam in 2017. His long and distinguished career, coupled with his post-retirement pursuit of philosophy, reflects a life devoted to learning, leadership, and the pursuit of higher understanding.

In addition to editing this commemorative volume, Shri Bhavaraju is the author of “18 Life Lessons of the Bhagavad Gita: Secrets to Success and Happiness,” published in 2025, which explores timeless wisdom for modern living. Currently residing in Kakinada with his wife, Smt. Satya, he finds joy and fulfillment in his close-knit family — his son Aditya, daughter-in-law Ramya, and granddaughter Mangala who live in Canada, and his daughter Anandalahari and son-in-law Guru Charan Prasad who reside in Hyderabad.

“Passion, Perseverance and Pride: Memoirs of NTPC Veterans” is more than a book — it is a living archive of NTPC’s legacy. It serves as a source of inspiration for current and future generations of professionals, reminding them that true progress stems from collective effort, commitment, and an unwavering belief in the power of purpose. As NTPC steps into its golden jubilee year, this book stands as a fitting celebration of the human spirit that continues to illuminate India’s path toward sustainable growth and national pride.
