Book Release: Spilled Coffee and Some Laughs by Bindu Unnikrishnan

Spilled Coffee and Some Laughs by Bindu Unnikrishnan arrives as a refreshing, honest, and delightfully irreverent collection that turns the everyday mess of life into moments of warmth, wit, and recognition. This book is not about grand revelations or curated perfection; it is about the small, chaotic, often humorous interruptions that define real life—reheated coffee gone cold again, misplaced keys in a supposedly organised home, unsolicited advice, emotional mismatches, and the quiet pressure of expectations that accompany modern living.

Through sharp yet compassionate essays, Bindu Unnikrishnan captures the lived experiences of love, marriage, motherhood, work, womanhood, and relationships with a voice that is both intimate and observant. Her humour acts as a gentle shield and a truth-teller, allowing readers to laugh at situations they know all too well: a teacher struggling with six yards of a saree, men discovering their culinary ambitions on Sundays, friendships tested by wellness trends, or women negotiating ambition, identity, and changing bodies with resilience and self-awareness. The laughter in these pages is unforced and deeply human—the kind that emerges from exhaustion, recognition, and relief rather than performance.

While deeply rooted in contemporary Indian life, Spilled Coffee and Some Laughs resonates universally. It does not offer quick fixes, motivational slogans, or life hacks. Instead, it celebrates imperfection, emotional honesty, and survival through humour. The book gently reminds readers that joy often hides in inconvenience, and that some of the most meaningful moments occur when plans unravel and life quietly takes over.

Bindu Unnikrishnan brings to this collection a voice shaped by both sensitivity and discipline. A writer, poet, and educator with a postgraduate degree in Physics, she blends clarity of thought with keen observation, honed over more than two decades of teaching. Her writing explores human relationships, resilience, and quiet transformation, finding significance in everyday moments and the silences between them. Her work has appeared in literary magazines and anthologies, and she has received recognition at national-level poetry and creative-writing contests.

She is also the author of Sonarelle – Stories That Echo, My Treasure Trove of Emotions, and Luminara – Poetry That Touches the Soul. After spending several years in the United States, she now lives in Pune, where she teaches Physics at a city school and continues to write.

Spilled Coffee and Some Laughs is a book for readers who see themselves in life’s small disruptions, who understand that humour can coexist with vulnerability, and who know that sometimes, when the coffee spills, clarity follows. Bindu Unnikrishnan can be contacted at bindu13@gmail.com.
