Interview with Author Kanchana Munirathnam

1. Akhila Saroha: I would like to begin by congratulating you on the publication of “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy.” How has the response to the book been so far?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Despite the fact that readers don’t often read about astronomy, there has been a very positive response from students who are interested in a career in astronomy . People who have a passion for the universe, and amateur astronomers have responded very favorably.

2. Akhila Saroha: What led to the idea of writing “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy”? Were there any events that inspired the work?

Kanchana Munirathnam: I have loved astronomy and exploring the cosmos since I was a young child . I have always been captivated by the vast sky and its sparkling stars.

My childhood dream was to be an astronomer, but I didn’t receive the right guidance in school, and as an engineering student, I didn’t have a very clear idea of the career path I wanted to take in the field of Astronomy. I therefore believed that this book would serve as a useful resource for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in astronomy.

3. Akhila Saroha: How easy or difficult was it for you to decide the layout of “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” and keep it simple to understand for the readers?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Since this is my second book in the field of astronomy, it wasn’t too difficult. ‘Understanding the theories of cosmology and astronomy ‘is my first book. Since my primary goal was to provide general guidance in the field of astronomy, I simply selected a layout that would introduce all fields and branches for aspiring astronomers regardless of their preferred subject, such as physics, math, chemistry, biology, computer science, or electronics, and shatter the conventional notion that astronomy is only about physics , rockets and telescopes.

4. Akhila Saroha: What are your views about present-day writing? Do you think it does complete justice in depicting human nature in the light of “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy”?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Modern writing, especially in the scientific field, is frequently difficult to understand, but those who are curious about the subject need more straightforward direction and explanation to learn about the various scientific aspects and research that are being conducted in their chosen scientific fields.

5. Akhila Saroha: “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” shows the uniqueness of your style of writing. Are there any authors that you enjoy reading or any books which are your favorites?

Kanchana Munirathnam: The theoretical cosmology book ‘A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes’ by English physicist Stephen Hawking inspired me when I was a kid. Hawking wrote the book with readers with no prior background in physics in mind. Stephen Hawking explains a variety of cosmology concepts, such as the Big Bang, black holes, and light cones, to the general reader in ‘A Brief History of Time’. Although he also makes an effort to explain some challenging mathematics, his primary objective is to provide an overview of the topic.

Similarity in my objectives contributed to the distinctiveness of my writing style.

6. Akhila Saroha: How would you categorize “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” as its appeal seems to be to a broad audience?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Readers who are familiar with astronomy as well as those who may not be completely knowledgeable about the subject can both enjoy this book. It will serve as a foundation because it leaves room for readers to engage in further research and astrophysical exploration. Additionally, it is open to readers of all ages and is not restricted to any particular age group.

7. Akhila Saroha: “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” has given a powerful introduction to your potential as a writer. Can the readers expect more from you in the future? Please share about your future projects.

Kanchana Munirathnam: Yes, I do have future projects. My goal is to help students and young people decide to pursue careers in astronomy and space science. You can anticipate a few books on metaphysical topics in addition to astronomy.

8. Akhila Saroha: What is the story behind the title of your work, “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy”?

Kanchana Munirathnam: As far as I’m aware, kids  and students are very interested in astronomy and want to learn more about the fundamentals of  nature like space, stars, and sun, moon etc. I would suggest that interested subjects should be introduced gradually in a very straightforward manner and point them in the direction of pursuing a career in astronomy and space science.

9. Akhila Saroha: Of all the modes of writing, what made you come up with the idea of writing in quote form in “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy”?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Children and students need gradual and straightforward guidance before they can determine their career based on their interests, as I previously stated. They may be interested in a variety of subjects, such as math, physics, biology, chemistry, etc. To apply their knowledge of their preferred subjects and pursue a career they ought to explore the various branches of astronomy.

10.      Akhila Saroha: In the present time, the ideas in “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” do not find much mention. What, according to you, could be the possible reason for that?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Perhaps this is because many people, especially parents, believe that stargazing and astronomical exploration don’t pay well, and they want their kids to work in fields that pay well and command respect from their peers.

11. Akhila Saroha: If you were to describe your book “Exploring Various Branches of Astronomy” in a few words without giving any spoilers, what would those words be?

Kanchana Munirathnam: Nobody helped me along the way when I wanted to pursue a career in astronomy. I became an IT professional.

Even though I didn’t give up my love of astronomy, I still believe that with the right guidance, I would have made astronomy my career.

Even though, I am not a professional astronomer, I decided to fill in that missing information in the hopes that it will help others who share my fascination with the cosmos.
