Neel Preet: Firstly, Congratulations on your book, “Cumulative Selling – New Age Sales Method” Well, can you please share your experience about making your work come into the form of book!
Thilaga Kumar: In my 18years experience, I have gone through many ups & downs in my life and I realised to become successful in sales, it is just not only product knowledge or technical skills. You need to adapt many skills like communication, empathetic, confidence, discipline, integrity, righteous action, sales skills, positive mindset etc., Hence, I want to express my thoughts & experience through this book.
I myself surprise to see, the book has come out so well and given different flavours in this book which attracts different style of readers like I have given “Thirukkural” beginning of each chapter (Ancient poet written 2000years ago) with sales perspective, many of my quotes, Expert view, Tools, case studies, my stories, dialogues etc.,
Neel Preet: Your book is a “True Guide” for the Sales Professionals. So what inspired you to write this book? What was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Thilaga Kumar: Initially, I planned to write a e-book of 10pages but when I penned down on the notebook, words were flowing and become a complete book now.
I casually attended a webinar during lockdown on “How to Write a Book” and I got ideas to write a book and want to make an attempt. I always want to try and curious to learn new things.
Neel Preet: Please explain the reason for going with this book title, ‘Cumulative Selling – New Age Sales Method!’
I believe the word “Cumulative effect”. Life is all about cumulative effect, because I believe what I am today is because of my daily discipline, my righteous action, my integrity, mindset, skillset, combination of all the above result of success whatever I am today. “Cumulative Effect” is a scientific word which means single result comes from the combination from various skills. Since, my book is about Sales, I have kept the title as “Cumulative Selling”. I believe, in new age sales, if you want to become succeed, you need to learn & adapt many skills & traits some of them are relationship, empathetic, mindset, integrity, add value, communication, problem solving, negotiation skills, objection handling etc.,
I have explained these skills & traits as RAISE framework for readers to understand and remember easily.
Neel Preet: Apart from this business & sales guide, would you be contributing in any other genre?
Yes. One of my chapter talks about “Everyone is Selling”. Many people things, selling skills needed only for people who works in sales organisation as sales professionals or business owners but we apply sales skills in daily life. Sales is nothing you are selling your ideas. Sales is about influencing, persuading others to buy your ideas. Negotiations with HR is also selling, parents handling objections of children is also selling, I have explained in this book in detail why selling is so important to live better life.
Also, one of my chapter is about work-life balance where I explained applying RAISE formula not only helps in success in sales but also to have a great family.
I have given my life example how I have great family life as well as success in sales. Given 10Tips for happy married life, also given advice for bachelors to find a right partner.
Neel Preet: What was your mind-set, while writing this book? Is it based on any particular experience of yours?
I would say, it is based on many of my experience in sales. I have given so many of sales experience and stories in the book. I strongly want to convey to all sales professionals and business owners do not just focus on numbers, prepare your mind, skill set , put right effort, order will automatically flow.
Neel Preet: Well, can you please explain that how this book is relevant in the present day scenario!
In Old age sales, we can easily sell because it was sellers market with less competition but today it is buyers market where you have lots of competition. Earlier you can sell by product knowledge and in new sales age, you not only need product knowledge, you need so many skills & traits. “Customer will buy your product when he likes you, trust you, when you solve his problem”. In this book, I not only talk about sales skills as well as how healthy body helps in sales, how disciplines, integrity and mindset helps in sales etc.,

Neel Preet: Is there any message that you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!
Sales will not close only during closing conversation. Sales will start from the beginning, the way you respond, the way you dress up, build relationship, you preparation, your followup etc.,
I suggest, my readers spend morning one hour for your ownself for planning a day, exercise, reading sales book,meditation, gratitude, affirmation etc., when you change inward and you will conquer the outer world and win the sales as well as your life.
