THE ROOM by Ankith S Kumar

A Story by Ankith S Kumar His eyes wandered across the vast emptiness of the room which reminded him of the emptiness of his heart. He walked across the dusty floor which stinks of old earth beneath him, into the darkness he wandered with not even a tiny strand of light. The dead cold ghostly winds whispered in his ears, sending a chill of fear across his frosted body. He could hear his heart pounding as if to burst. He could hear his mind scream with fear. His legs refused to move another inch. His breath heated up screaming with an irking sound while it made its way out forcefully. He noticed his hands were trembling and they felt numb. He could feel his sweat slowly climbing down his forehead like a snake crawling down the tree. He tried hard to stay calm but in vain. Frightful thoughts gather one by one in his mind, he felt a feeling of being watched from behind but he lacked the guts to turn around. But, the curiosity of his mind forced him. He turned around sure enough to see an unpleasant sight. He moved his eyes to look at the mystic, and he was startled for a while but was comforted by what he saw. A beautiful yet dusty old painting of what appeared to be a woman lavishly adorned with rich robes hung on the wall with pride. She had a sweet yet distressed smile on her face, the scene created a paradox of what appears. He glanced at it with a curious sight, “Madame Elisa, 1610”, written in fading ink on the bottom teak wood frame of the painting fell into his eyes. He wondered who it could have been. He took a few steps close for a better view. When he lifted his leg to keep the third step on the hard ground, his foot met with something warm, furry, and fleshy. A sudden burst of screams echoed in the room. He jumped back and fell down. His back landed on the floor hard. He was half dead with fear. He looked at what he has kept his foot on. A black cat with flaming yellow eyes stared at him. It threatened him with its razor-sharp teeth. He lay on the ground motionless…… Buy your copy to read full story
